Description

The "Pillars of Creation" are towers of gas and dust within an active star forming region hiding newborn stars.  The bright stars above and to the right of the pillars are bathing them in UV light and the winds from the stars are slowly eroding the columns of gas and dust.  The tendrils are 4-5 LY's long and the nebula itself spans 55-70 LY's.  The nebula lies approximately 7000 LY's from earth in the constellation Serpens.
